As our Commis Chef, you’ll report directly to the Restaurant Executive Chef, working in a vibrant, hands-on environment that emphasises flawless product execution, safety, and creativity. Sokyo is a multi-award-winning Japanese fine dining restaurant led by the award-winning talented Chef Daniel Kwak. Sokyo continues to pay homage to Japanese heritage whilst infusing it with a modern touch using the finest Australian produce.

A few of your responsibilities  

  • Support or lead the assigned section as directed by the Sous Chef and provide training to junior staff members
  • Assist with fundamental cooking and food preparation tasks 
  • Maintain cleanliness of kitchen equipment and workstations
  • Complete all duties in line with company and statutory hygiene requirements 
  • Meet requirements for consistency and high quality in a fast-paced environment 

 

What are we looking for  

  • Culinary School Graduate. Received apprenticeship training in commercial cookery or Pastry
  • Proficiency with diverse food preparation techniques and cooking equipment
  • Successfully completed a Commercial Cookery Apprenticeship, gaining comprehensive knowledge of food preparation, particularly in café, hotel, or high-volume settings, along with strong communication skills and a solid understanding of relevant liquor laws
  • Flexibility to work a rotating roster, including mornings, evenings, weekends, and public holidays

You are passionate and creative, willing to share your skills and expertise in guiding and shaping those who are new to Sokyo. With exceptional communication skills, you enjoy collaborating with colleagues and management as well as interacting with our customers. You bring a proactive, positive attitude to every task and are committed to consistently delivering high standards.

Your role will be pivotal for Sokyo’s success at The Star Sydney.
