The Star Brisbane is Australia’s newest entertainment hub at the heart of the new Queen’s Wharf Brisbane precinct. The first phase is now open, with more venues and experiences on the way. The Star Brisbane offers a variety of new dining, bars, and unique entertainment options. It also includes a five-star luxury hotel, The Star Grand, and a state-of-the-art Event Centre. This transformational project has brought even more excitement and anticipation to burgeoning Brisbane. It will redefine how people play, shop, and socialise in the river city.
You’ll provide trusted employee and industrial relations advice while acting as the first point of contact for all employee enquiries, delivering a high level of customer service across the business. Manage end to end casework including workplace investigations, guiding leaders through performance discussions, and offering clear advice on legislation, policies and procedures.

A few of your responsibilities
- Ensure customer service expectations are met and that employee queries are resolved in a timely and professional manner
- End-to-end case management of all medium and high-risk ER cases to resolution. This includes drafting all correspondence relating to the case, providing telephone advice throughout the process and completing all associated administration
- Represent The Star in industrial relations/employee relations matters with team members, unions, employer bodies and industrial authorities for lower risk matters
- Respond to enquiries from union officials and/or delegates when they raise matters pertaining to Enterprise Agreements and other business decisions
- Support and provide advice (including involvement in disciplinary meetings where necessary) to frontline managers. Including behavioural or performance management related matters, disputes on leave, grievances, long term unplanned leave and non-work-related injuries
- Conduct workplace investigations into employee grievances
- Managing long-term absence / NWRI cases including the preparation and production of IME reports and making meaningful interventions to ensure all cases are dealt with in a reasonable and timely manner.
- Provide interpretation and guidance on an appropriate course of action for line managers in resolution of HR related matters such as policy guidelines and legal obligations
- Delivering effective coaching and development to line managers resulting in a positive impact on business performance and preventing a re-occurrence of issues
- Work alongside the People Partners (HR) function to support their portfolios where needed.
- Identifying skills/knowledge gaps and deliver interventions such as training, coaching and education sessions to build leader capability
- Responsible for keeping up to date and compliant with applicable legislation and Industrial Instruments.
- Ensuring the ER systems, case management tools and employee files are accurate, up to date and reflect advice given, action taken and that the paperwork has been sent in a timely manner e.g. invite, outcome, appeals. Support Star’s culture that builds a diverse and inclusive workplace
What we are looking for
- Undergraduate degree in HR, Business or a related discipline
- Experience (2 years +) in HRM in a complex organisation
- Demonstrated understanding of relevant workplace legislation, regulations and enterprise agreements
- Demonstrated experience in providing HR advisory support for frontline leaders and team members
- Strong case management skills – end to end
- Computer savvy: experienced user of core MS Office applications and comfortable learning and applying bespoke software applications
